First Power-to-Gas asset linked in Next Kraftwerke’s Virtual Power Plant

Next Kraftwerke’s central control system has integrated the innovative Power-to-Gas unit in its Virtual Power Plant “Next Pool” and controls the electrolyzer in case of an excess of solar and wind power in the distribution network area. The electrolyzer, operated by Greenpeace Energy and the public utility in Bavarian Haßfurt, has a capacity of 1.25 MW and is able to produce hydrogen from excessive power generated by renewable energies. The asset will also provide control reserve to TSO Tennet.

Together with 10 international partners Next Kraftwerke was awarded the Horizon2020 project BestRES funded by the European Commission

The BestRES project will develop innovative business models for integration of renewable energy sources by aggregating distributed generation such as wind, PV, biogas, biomass, hydro, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and combining this with demand response and energy storage technologies.

First Belgian Virtual Power Plant replacing services of large nuclear and gas units through a network of renewable energy installations

Brussels-based Next Kraftwerke Belgium successfully provides primary reserve (R1) to transmission system operator Elia by networking the power generation of many small renewable generators. With its Virtual Power Plant (VPP), Next Kraftwerke brings a new concept to Belgium and is the first to prove that renewables can offer the same demanding system services as large nuclear plants or gas turbines.

Next Kraftwerke wins 2016 “Good Practice of the Year” award

The “Good Practice of the Year” jury has chosen Next Kraftwerke’s Virtual Power Plant Next Pool as the 2016 “Technology & Design” winner, stating it is an immense asset in the transformation of the power grid. “We are happy to receive the ‘Good Practice of the Year’ Award and are excited to see that others share our view on how to design a sustainable and decentralized power system”, Next Kraftwerke’s founder and CEO Hendrik Sämisch commented on the win. Next Kraftwerke expands Virtual Power Plant to Poland

Next Kraftwerke, which operates in several European countries, has now expanded its Virtual Power Plant to Poland. As a licensed Polish power trader, Next Kraftwerke jointly with Elektrownie Next sp.z o.o. markets electricity from Polish renewable energy sources via the Virtual Power Plant Next Pool.
